The Meeson family
We are not quite sure how, where and what to begin this message with - how can you summarise our thoughts about such a great bloke like Neil. A man that in our lives will be forever remembered for his support, care and dedication to the Stoke City Junior Potters. A man with drive, passion, energy and a sense of adventure. Far too many memories to write them all down from summer BBQ's on the back lawn to holidays in the lake district where Neil, Jan and my own parents had forgotten their wallets and left 4 kids dying of thirst on a 10 mile hike around grasmere - soon found his wallet when it mattered later over 4 pints of bitter in the hotel bar i must add. But my own personal favourite is one sunny Saturday afternoon in merseyside. the previous evening Stoke had played Tranmere, we won 2-1 for the record...i'm almost sure Tony Ellis opened the scoring and the late Mick Kennedy added the second from the penalty spot (whilst you may yawn, Neil would love my statto trivia...so let me indulge!). The Saturday saw me, Andy, my Dad Phil and Neil travel to Liverpool v Aston Villa. Neil reckoned that he had managed to get some tickets....in truth, he wanted to show off his new Jaguar car...and who wouldn't ? We park up around a mile from Anfield and as we get out the car two young Scouse lads approach. "Quid to look after your car Mr?" quips the first youngster. Neil thinks on his feet and tried to be the funny guy.."No thanks lads, we are alright - I've got my Doberman in the back of the car, i think he'll guard it well enough!". Phew i think..we swerved that one. The 2 young scouse lads are unmoved. "You know this Doberman la ? Can he put out a fire?". Neil freezes. "Bloody hell Danny, lend us a quid will yer...these lads are serious?" Here was me, an 11 year old just starting high school lending the MD of a huge multinational a quid to guard his precious Jag...priceless ! For those interested...Liverpool won 2-1, Bares scored the winner in the 89th minute. Neil, we will all miss you - a great man, gone way too soon. Enjoy yourself.
